Buffalo Soldier

bronze
Edition:
Sizes:
1. 10" high
2. 36" high (maquette for monument)
This sculpture pays tribute to the 9th and 10th U.S.
Calvary regiments created in 1866. It is
interesting to note that the Indians actually named the
black soldiers "Buffalo" Soldiers because of
their brave fierce fighting, their curly hair and dusty
coats which reminded the Indians of a buffalo's
mane. The Indians had a high regard for the
buffalo and the name was established as a gesture of
respect.
